Why is it that number fields drop the trailing zero?

Seras February 19, 2020

For example 12.50 will display 12.5. Is there a way and place to display it as the first value?

That is how numbers are supposed to be written, you don't need trailing 0s on numbers, they are totally redundant.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- That makes total sense to me. Sounds like they wanted their number field to act like a "dollar amount" field. In dollar amounts it's very common to see the trailing "0" on the decimal.

Any suggestions on best practices for creating a field to hold dollar amounts?

Thank you!

You would need to write an app to provide a currency value field that would unnecessarily pad the numbers when displaying it.

We opted for rounding to the nearest dollar. Users were very confused by the missing 0, cest la vie.
