Hello.

Currently there is a license until the end of the year for Jira Software. I want to switch to Jira Service Desk with a surcharge, instead of Software. How can I do that?

Hi @System Administrator ,

Switching from JIRA Software to JIRA Service Desk if I understood you correctly means you would like to use JIRA service desk in your everyday work rather than JIRA software.

If this is true note the following:

  • Only users with an agent license would be able to access the JIRA instance others would be sent to portals.
  • Only agents would be able to send forward facing comments to your clients.
  • Due to the change, your license for add-ons would be impacted as the user-tier would now be based on the Service Desk agent tier rather than JIRAs.
  • If your JIRA software license has not expired then a refund of it has been used for more than a month is not possible so you may need to pay the full price for a JIRA Service desk license. (I would suggest contacting Atlassian directly on this though but this is what I understand is the normal practise).
  • Boards, reports and all other functions provided by JIRA software would be unavailable to you.

Now for upgrading the license you can either wait for the JIRA Software license to expire or you can remove the license.

  • Please note that the license MUST be removed because if you have an expired license installed, then it would still count towards add-on licenses and you would see a warning that there is an expired license installed though your work should not be impacted since it is commercial. This though would impact upgrading in future as you can only upgrade truly to versions of the product released before the license expired.

I am happy to answer any other questions you may have but hope this helps.

There's no way to do that, you'll need to buy a Jira Service Desk licence, and let the Software one lapse.
