I don't really understand why this is not documented so I have to ask here after trying a few things: 

 params.addCustomFieldValue(cfPoints,forms.points)
 params.setCustomFieldValue(cfPoints,forms.points[0].toString())
 params.setCustomFieldValue(forms.points)
