I have exported the auotmation rule in json format, i would like to use other project using import automation option. Can you guide me on that.
Hi Ramesh,
Yes, you can import your automation rule into another Jira project. Here’s how to do it:
Steps to Import Automation Rule:
Go to Project Settings in the target project.
Click on Automation in the left-hand menu.
In the top right corner, click the three dots (•••).
Select Import rule.
Choose the JSON file you exported.
Review the rule and click Turn it on if everything looks good.
Make sure to update any project-specific fields or values after import.
@ashu patel what is your source on this? Importing/Exporting automation rules is only available if you are a Jira app admin and only if you go to Global automation under Settings > System > Global automation or Global automation in Project settings > Automation.

@Mikael Sandberg Thanks for catching that — you’re right! Importing/exporting automation rules is only available to Jira admins under Global automation (via System settings) or in company-managed projects with the right permissions.
I should’ve mentioned the permission requirement more clearly in my previous reply — appreciate your input!

Hi Ramesh,
Are you importing into the same Jira instance? Or another one? If they same instance, you don't need to export and import, just change the scope of the projects using it.
