"Successfully removed" group is not actually deleted

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
I have a group added in People to a project. When I click "Remove", a notification pops up on the lower left hand corner saying that the group has been deleted, but it has not. The group name stays there when I refresh. I confirmed with people who are in the group that they can still access my project. How do I delete this group?
