users and active directory

Hello,

We have recently changed from using JIRA's internal directory to Active Directory for our authentication in JIRA. Now we are approaching our license limit and I wish to remove access to JIRA for some users who no longer need access.

Before I could just make them inactive, unless they were a project lead or some similar role. However that option is no longer available with AD.

Hence my questions are:

  1. Do I just take them out of their JIRA groups? My initial tests indicates this is the way to go but I'm not sure.
  2. If so, what happens to issues assigned to / report by them? Again, initial tests indicate the response is: not a lot. But I would like that confirmed.

Any other tips and trick for managing users with AD will also be appreciated.

Andrew

Hi @Andrew Thorne

The best option for you will be to inactivate the users as the inactivate users will not be counted against the license. Once the user is inactivated, all the issues created by him/her will be in the JIRA and they can be accessed by other users even though the respective users, who created the issues/commented, are inactivate.

Ensure that all the existing users in the Internal Directory, have the same user names in the Active Directory.
