How to copy data from cloned issue to original issue with Automation for JIRA

Daniel Hellmuth November 28, 2019

Hello All,

In order to hand over issues from one department (JIRA project A) to another (JIRA project B) we are using „Automation for JIRA“ to clone issues if they are transitioned into a specific status in project A. The cloned issue then goes separately through the workflow of project B. Once the clone is transitioned into status „done“ the data of the description field should be copied to the original issue of project A. To achieve the latter we built the rule shown in the screenshot, which unfortunately does not yet bring the result we want.

Is there any possibility to load the data of the clone (e.g. description field) and write it into the original issue, maybe by using some kind of smart value as proposed in the screenshot?

Thanks in advance!

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for reaching out.

You can achieve this by selecting the description field from the "Choose fields to set" dropdown, then using the copy from trigger issue.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the answer - works pretty well.

However, I was wondering if there is also a way not to overwrite the data in the original issue. The goal is to have something like a history in the original issue with all the data copied from (sometimes multiple) clones.

Best regards,

Daniel
