JSD LDAP two way updates

Dan Wright March 6, 2018
I’m new to JSD and my company is building out our environment at the moment. Our Microsoft Windows AD isn’t in the best state, and whilst we are working to clean it up, I would like to explore the options available to us. With LDAP intergration are we able to open up specific fields like telephone and mobile fields to be updated from the customer profile and sync back to AD?
(If it helps we are also using the insight add-on which will also be connected to AD)
Thank you in advance all

Hi Dan,

The import can only read from the AD, not write to it. As such you can only import the data to Insight, but you can't update the AD based on information from Insight.

We do have the option to export data from Insight as CSV, if that could be used somehow to manually import it back to the AD.

Cheers!

Great thank you very much for the response.

With the insight customs fields (telephone number and job title) I imagine I could select in insight to “show on profile” then the user could update through their Jira profile page? Assuming this is correct ... after as you mentioned we could export to csv and deploy a script to update AD.

What you see on the user profile is objects connected to the user, either through an User or an group attribute, and as you mentioned, depending on the show on profile setting.

And the custom fields you refer to should actually be the attributes for the objects,  correct (?), as custom fields in JIRA refers to the fields on an issue.

The objects can't be edited inline there (User profile), but they can click there to go to the object in Insight and edit it there.

If you feel like this answered your question, please mark it as accepted :)

Cheers!
