Please add this back as soon as possible. The lack of of the side bar is extremely frustrating.
I mean this as respectfully as possible to the Trello team, but you are irritating a lot of people with this update and setting yourselves up for failure. I'd say every respectful comment probably represents at least 100-500 users who are pissed & absolutely livid about the change, but don't have the time to comment (probably because they are pulling their hair out trying to revert back to the old view & catching up on work they needed to defer due to trying to navigate the new change) So rather than having users potentially realize the improvements your update might bring, users who have used the app for years are just getting mad. You are probably going to get a lot of mean & negative comments because the removal of something like this.
When things like this roll out without their feedback or a way to revert to the previous workflow, it makes users feel extremely alienated & unheard as it's perceived as a direct attack on their productivity and thus their money. I've seen it on other platforms like Amazon, shopify, bigcommerce, etc. These big companies change the way things operate and accidentally add a ton of time to what used to take half a second. It just makes people feel unheard because they're forced into the new update with no recourse.
I know adding a click or two doesn't seem like a big deal to UI designers, but if it's something you need to do several times an hour, it really wastes a lot of time.
June 26th, it was anticipated that the tools to revert to the classic view would be available by the end of that week - the 28th, if we're including the weekend.
@Alexandros Mathopoulos Agreed with most people above. When does the "revert to old ui" option roll out? Otherwise our team needs to migrate away from Trello. This update is a disaster, even though I understand that there are a lot of efficiencies and improvements baked in for the more "power users". In my (and based on the comments above many others) use case, I do not need to switch between boards, have a planner or inbox or anything extra. We use a SINGLE board and pnly need Lists and Cards with the most basic interface possible. Think about 65+ users and folks who are not very computer literate and a constant stream of new volunteers working on slow connections and small screens- extra buttons, collapsing comment windows, and all these extra features are not beneficial in the slightest. The whole reason we use Trello is for the simplicity of the interface. Now that you have removed that, this product is no longer viable. I get that you are trying to force users to upgrade to paid plans by encouraging them to have multiple users across multiple boards with the new "pay per user" option, so having more options to switch boards is great for that! But with small businesses we look for ways to save money, which means we only have a few users that interact with more than one board to minimize the cost. Most users only interact with a single board in my use-case, so all these bells and whistles are just filler.
"While the majority of users love seeing their board represented as very visual tiles in the board switcher" ...in with what's shown first in a random (ie. recent order) with the ordered boards hidden behind even more clicks.
Atlassian, what you didn't understand is that the sidebar and order of the boards was a very important and functional part of the product. When using multiple boards the sidebar list often represented workflow from one board to the next, and with logical groupings. And a visual reminder of what the flow and those groups were. (Now what would be useful is the ability to sort board order in the sidebar without resorting to names, separators without dummy boards, etc -- actually power up the bar. Folders would be nice too, so some lesser used boards could be hidden behind one click. This is the direction the sidebar should go...actually enhanced (and optional of course).
Also the workspace switcher is an important part of the sidebar, and it was great before. Working across different workspaces flowed well along with the sidebar...for many it's another dimension of organization. Please don't forget this part of the restored version. (Not having multi-workspace boards in the sidebar was good for me, but might be a nice enhancement option for others.)
For those that don't like the new card look and such, check out the Stylus extension (and others similar), which lets you make or use already made custom styles that can change an existing site (without a full extension). There is nothing yet, and the few hundred older one's already there probably broke with the update, but given a bit of time, someone will probably get a pretty close "classic style" option made. (Having to always click on the tiny images vs just looking at them is super fun...great for those using cards as drill down storyboards I'm sure.)
I reached out to Customer Service and agent Sal responded this when asked about the mentioned update to revert to the old UI:
"To clarify a bit about that community thread, while there won't be a way to revert to the old UI, there will be an option to pin the board switcher to the left side, similar to the old sidebar."
---
So for those looking for a UI rollback and/or and option for a "legacy theme" or similar, that won't be happening. Thanks for the fun times Trello! And best of luck Atlassian with future evolutions.

Hi @Nick Jennison! Appreciate the honest feedback! For you in particular, is the change that is primarily frustrating to you the changes to the cardback (user experience when clicking to open a card)?
While, we will not be offering the ability to revert to the old carback UI, I can assure you that we are doing our best to listen to our users about any improvements we can make to the new cardback. We know it is not perfect and has area for improvement. Definitely let us know if you have any particular suggestions/changes we can make to the new cardback to better fit your needs.
In terms of new features like Inbox, Planner, etc, while we encourage all users to try them and and see if it useful for them, we recognize that not every feature will be valuable to every feature. If either Inbox or Planner are not valuable to you, you can hide them from view by clicking on the corresponding buttons in the navigation/island near the bottom of your board.
Again, appreciate the feedback! I can assure you that we are doing our best to listen to our millions of users, and design the best solutions for the majority of our users (for example, the board navigation improvements we announced above in this blog post for. our users who switch boards often).
Appreciate the feedback! Yes, absolutely. We are super excited for yall to be able to play around with and use the new pinned board switcher (aka board switcher as a left sidebar) that is described above. It will let users see their boards across their workspaces (search, etc) or they can focus in and only see the boards/workspace views of a particular workspace. We believe this will be a better experience for both single workspace users as well as many workspace users.
Looking forward to seeing what you think! Team is hard at work to get it out as soon as possible. We are in the final stages of bug fixing, etc. to make sure it reaches our quality bar and it should be out by the end of the month (hopefully sooner).

Hi! Lex here from the Trello Product Management team! Just wanted to provide an update that we are in the final stages of bug fixing for the board navigation changes we described in the blog post above. We are confident we will be able to get it out to 100% of users by the end of the month but are shooting for sooner.
Appreciate the patience, we know everybody is eager to get access to these improvements! Will share an update here as soon as the change has been rolled out.
If there are any other board navigation issues you are facing that you do not believe will be fixed by the changes described in the blog post above, please let me know!
1. What about the option to get the cards in a vertical view again instead of the split view (where comments have a fixed width on the right so it messes up everything when working on a smaller display)?
2. What about removing the bottom menu where I can switch between Inbox, Planner and Board? I don't need that menu at all. Any chance of getting that removed by settings or such?
3. Getting direct access to automations and power ups in the card again? Instead of always having to go to the bottom, find the right automation and so having multiple clicks more than what it was before?
It feels quite disappointing that such a broad change has been rolled out without honoring any of the old clients. And then on top of that not offering any kind of support for non paid members.
I assume that a lot of smaller businesses actually don't need any of those features, but can't give any feedback to the updates due to being denied a way to contact your team directly.
All in all (currently) it feels that Atlassin feels updates are more important, than having a reliable and good product that worked. Remember, everybody worked with what was there before, but now due to the forced update, people start reconsidering.
I for example now paid for something else (not an Atlassin product) because you moved away from an efficient and well developed tool that Trello was (and to me not is anymore).
1. Cardbacks need to be single pane rather than split pane. The comments will not be intuitive to our users and the formatting and text size of the new cards is terrible. Keep it all in one single pane so all users have to do is scroll down, not click an extra button to see the comments. Without this change, there is no way our team will be able to use trello anymore. This also seems like a pretty simple option for you to provide users. Even if you maintain the view/hide comments button, it should be pretty simple to just dock it BELOW the main description rather than to the right, which would mimic the original cards.
2. Navigation Island - this should be OPTIONAL, not forced. A simple settings button to view/hide should be an extremely simple and easy fix for you to make.
3.Automations and power ups on the cards means simple navigation rather than going through multiple steps to get there.
In other words, why did you break everything that made Trello simple and user-intuitive? I guess the power users are all that atlassian cares about now rather than all the small businesses trying to make ends meet.
Sounds like we'll be leaving Trello unless any of these requests can be fulfilled. It's been a good decade+ run, but now your product is no longer viable.
