Board permissions

Do I need to upgrade to restrict other members from adding people to a board? Would the upgrade need to be Gold or Business Class?

We obviously don't want random people adding other random people to teams or boards. It seems really basic that a team or a board should have someone who sets those permissions. As we consider whether to stick with Trello and upgrade, or head to 'the other' project management app, the fact that there's no basic access to a simple feature like this makes us wary.

Like @Danny Zuccaro said, the page he links gives the permissions breakdown for board members. 

Trello does in fact support setting these permissions! You can decide that board admins are the only ones who can add members to the board, for example, with this setting here:

And the option below, when unticked (like in this photo), denies anyone trying to join a board without approval. If you ever have a board you want folks to be able to join without asking or being given permission first, you can tick this setting, but otherwise leave it off to keep board membership secure.
