@jackie mcdonnellWhen deciding between Trello and Jira, you can view this of a problem of matching the complexity of your project and organization with the tool to choose.
As a rule of thumb:
Both. Neither. Argh.
That's really hard question, and I do not think there is a good answer, despite the simplicity of it, and that it is a very good question.
My house uses Trello to track simple things that need doing. It has replaced the "stick stuff to the 'fridge". In theory, a Jira Kanban board could easily replace Trello, but it is still a little bit overpowered for it, despite our house having an Atlassian-nerd living in it.
An organisation I worked for a while ago runs big projects. The most notable projects are probably the ones where they delivered telescopes looking at the origins of the universe and robots on other planets. Trello can't possibly organise that, Jira can.
So, I have not answered the question at all. But I would hope I've explained why it is very hard to compare them.
