Is it possible for an Automation Rule to create a card via a Template?

There is probably a simple solution to this but I can't figure out how to use a Rule to create a card via a template after a certain trigger happens.

I can see how I could build the card I want through automation but I would much prefer that It looks to a template card so that updates can be made more easily. Is this possible? Thanks in advance for the help! :)

Hi @JB

You can use the "Create issue" action to and fill in the appropriate fields within automation (but it sounds like you already know this).

An alternative might be to create your issue in jira and then use the clone action to duplicate it. You'll need to use a branch to search for your template and then perform the clone action and any additional actions under that branch.

So in this I just chose a random trigger (use the trigger you need and you might want to add conditions to make sure it doesn't run all the time).

I added a "branch" and used a JQL search to find a specific issue (in this case I searched for the issue key "AUTOM8-108"). Then in the branch I duplicated the issue and transitioned the issue to TODO.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks,

John
