Is it possible to filter by custom field if it's not a date?

Is it possible to filter by custom fields that are texts, dropdowns, etc? Ie only show custom field if, ____ is there.

@Kelly Enright to add to the answer from @Jakub Hanak it's actually possible to filter on any custom field value that's *not* a date, you can't filter on custom field values that *are* dates, you can only filter based on due date.

I don't seem to have the option to filter by that under my normal filter options....would it be somewhere else?

Go to Search for issues and click "More", there you should see all the filelds available.
