Daydreaming of powerful custom fields for Jira and JSM that keep your data put within Atlassian? Aren’t we all? Then it might be reassuring to know that Awesome Custom Fields will have the Runs on Atlassian badge.
As you might have heard, Atlassian has a new badge out for apps that meet their highest privacy and security standards—Runs on Atlassian. It makes it easier to add new apps to your stack by signaling Cloud apps fully built on Atlassian infrastructure (Forge), and offer maximal control of data egress and data residency.
Awesome Custom Fields (ACF) is an app for Jira that helps teams understand issue details at a glance—all without data leaving Atlassian. ACF extends Jira with 20+ custom field types for prioritization, estimations, calculations, and progress tracking. The app works with both Jira Cloud and Jira Service Management.
Awesome Custom Fields gives your Jira work items superpowers—while keeping your data within Atlassian.
From before, ACF was already designed to keep your data inside Atlassian. The only sticking point was our Cascading Select field, which enables multi-level selections for more complex workflows and had its own Cascading Select Options API. In the past, if you chose to enable the API, some data could leave Atlassian (data egress). Now, we’ve updated this component so that no data leaves Jira—even if the API is turned on. As a result, the app meets Atlassian’s Runs on Atlassian criteria, and you can rest assured that your critical information remains securely within Atlassian by default.
One of the advantages of the “Runs on Atlassian” program is that it holds apps to a consistently high security standard—even as they evolve. If a future update compromises compliance, the app loses its badge, meaning you can rely on ACF continuing to meet Atlassian’s security, data residency, and data egress criteria. This also helps simplify procurement—if your organization already trusts Atlassian’s Cloud platform, adopting a Runs on Atlassian app is easy.
PS If you’re curious about other exploring Atlassian marketplace apps from a security standpoint I recommend checking out forge-apps.com (developed by Seibert) for a handy list. It shows you all the apps in the marketplace, while differentiating between egress and non-egress apps—a great resource when comparing potential solutions.
Full disclosure: I'm the marketing manager for Awesome Custom Fields, which is mentioned in this article.
