Jira rule to sum up original estimate does not go to Initiative

David Larsen August 13, 2025

I have a global rule to sum up estime time from sub tasks, to tasks, to epics and i wanted it to also go to initiative, but it does not work and i dont under stand why.

here is my rule

It is a company wide software project with all 4 tiers.

as you can see it works until Epic

as you can see here jira sees the epics as child items to the initiative

Thank you, i will make a seperate rule for this - silly it is not default, since it is considered a parent / child relationship in Jira

Hello @David Larsen

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Is the rule being triggered when the Epic is updated? Do you see an entry in the Audit Log for that execution?

If you do, please share the details of that with us.
