What is the Best Way to Automate Different Approvers at Different Steps in the Workflow?

Hello All,

I am working on a Work Management Project that is centered around product change requests. The changes require multiple approvers, and these approvers can be different from request to request depending on what the change request is. I am trying to figure out the best way to automate the approval process but having trouble figuring out the best way to do so. I was thinking of adding approvals to the workflow but like I mentioned before the approvers may be different for each request and it seems like I can only put in fixed names for approvers instead of dynamic fields.

Hi Samuel - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

They way I handle that is to create an automation rule with an IF/ELSE Condition which based on the value of a field for the request I have an Edit Work Item to add values to the Approvers field.

Hey John! Thank you for getting back to me. Would this work if I need multiple people to ALL approve a step in the workflow before it can be transitioned to the next step in the flow? Thats why I was exploring the Approvals function in Jira but realized that you have to preset the list of approvers at each workflow step but in my case the approvers are going to be different for each change request.

Actually just realized this is Jira and not JSM. Can you confirm the actual project type? Business project? Software project? Team-managed? Company-managed?

It's a Business Project that my team manages.
