How are logs created and rolled

Confluence and Jira both lack some auditing that I can find in the log files, the problem is that our instance writes logs so fast, that they only go back 2 days, but I would like to have an archive of them. I have a script that will take *.1 logs, zip, move, and then delete the originals. I am assuming 1 is the oldest log, but how does jira/confluence roll logs? Is it based on size or time?

Hey Jobin,

While this helps, do you know if I remove the oldest file, will that cause any issues in Jira/Confluence rolling the logs?

Nope, it shouldn't cause any issues.

Actually, on second look, it appears that .5 is the older of the log files
