Sign Up for Automated Restorability Testing for Backup and Restore Product🚀

Hi! We're Asvini and Lakshmi Manasi, the product managers for Atlassian’s new Backup and Restore experience. As you may know, our new experience went into open beta for customers with at least one cloud enterprise edition license.

For customers taking part in the open beta, I’m thrilled to announce our upcoming Automated Restorability Testing program. This feature is designed to help customers evaluate the effectiveness of our new backup and restore solution.

Why are we rolling this out?

A backup is only as valuable as its ability to be restored. Our goal is to ensure that in the event of a disaster, your backups can be easily restored for organizations of all shapes and sizes. The only way we can definitively prove this is by doing it (less talk more action)!

Automated Restorability Testing is a new Backup and Restore feature that validates the integrity of your backups—ensuring they are complete, uncorrupted, and ready to recover when needed. This proactive testing allows us to detect and resolve potential restore issues before they impact your business.

Key Benefits of Joining

By joining this program, you’ll help us—and benefit by:

  • Detecting and resolving issues early, before they impact your production environment.

  • Receiving high-touch support from our team in the event of a failure - our engineering team will handle restore testing on your behalf and triage any issues end-to-end - at no additional cost.

  • Gaining operational assurance, knowing your backups are restorable.

Here’s how the feature would work:

Secure, Automated Restore Process

When selected for testing, you'll receive a dedicated sandbox environment in your region, fully isolated from your production setup, and provided at no extra cost. The sandbox is automatically populated with data from your latest backup, ensuring your live production environment remains untouched. You'll be notified before and after the restore process. If successful, the sandbox is dismantled; if not, an automated support ticket is created to resolve issues, with the sandbox remaining active until resolved. This secure, automated process guarantees data privacy, and each organization can run one restore at a time.

How to Sign Up

We’re looking for early adopters of this feature!
Org admins can sign up for the Automated Restorability Testing program by signing up for the program here. Upon enrollment, a confirmation email will be sent to all org admins associated with your organization.

Who should sign up?

  • Both active and new Backup and Restore customers eligible for open beta are welcome.

I understand that the Backup and Restore open beta is only for Enterprise Edition customers.

Does this mean that the final feature will also be for Enterprise Edition only?

Also, is it known when this would be generally available?

@Lakshmi Behl -- Yes, can you confirm whether this feature will be available to Premium or other tiers when it becomes Generally Available (GA)?

I discovered that Atlassian just quietly removed its public KBA about automated backups:

That link was still available as of July 30.

So it seems Atlassian is getting ready to quietly pull support for that capability.

When that happens, will companies too small to be "Enterprises" have access to the new capabilities (even if we have to pay for them)?  I hope this statement implies the feature will be more widely available:
