πŸ”— Link a list of Assets to Jira Work Item Description & Comments πŸš€

Hello Atlassian Community,

We are thrilled to announce another exciting update designed to enhance the visibility of asset data across various touchpoints within the Atlassian system of work.

πŸ“’ You can now embed Assets tables directly into Jira work items descriptions and comment fields!

That’s right β€” in addition to surfacing Assets in Confluence, agents can now insert those same tables into Jira work items. Whether you’re logging a ticket or updating a teammate in the comments, your most important asset data is now just a few clicks away.

Why is this important?

This update enhances asset visibility in Jira. With just a few simple steps, agents can access a live list of Assets objects directly within Jira.

  • Providing agents with up-to-date information on assets streamlines context, reduces unnecessary back-and-forth communication, and facilitates confident collaboration among teams.

  • This solution empowers a variety of use cases. Whether you need to link devices to incidents, track contracts, or provide location data for facilities, the information you require is conveniently accessible right at your fingertips.

How to use it:

  • Head into a Jira work item.

  • Click into the description or comment field.

  • Type /Assets or paste a smart link to an object or object list.

  • Select the object(s) you want to display.

  • That’s it! β€” live asset data embedded, just like that.

FAQs:

  1. Do I need a JSM license to access this feature?

Yes, a JSM Premium or Enterprise license is required to insert the table. However, no license is necessary to view the table.

  2. Can anyone see the assets once they are embedded?
Similar to the Confluence experience, we continue to support the object viewer role, which allows non-agent teammates to have read-only access to Assets data across the Atlassian platform without needing a full license. This approach promotes greater visibility of the data, reduces silos, and enhances decision-making for everyone involved.

  3. Is the asset available for visibility only, or can I update the asset from a Jira work item?
This view is strictly read-only. To update the Assets object information, you must do so within the Assets module and possess the appropriate schema permissions.

  4. Can I insert the table during work item create? Unfortunately this option is available only after the work item is created due to some technical limitations, we are looking into how we can make it easier to add it during the work item creation flow in the future.

We’re so excited for you to try this out. As always, we’d love to hear what you think β€” your feedback powers our roadmap and helps us make Jira Service Management Assets even better.

Let us know how it’s working for you in the comments!

    Cheers,

This is great news. Opens up a lot of possibilities without having to have various asset field on the work item screens. Now any object can just be added, even better using tables and automations

Nice addition. I just hope that once you update table/macro filter (AQL), column order won't reset to default as it is the case in Confluence πŸ‘€

Nice...so, let's see how we can automate this as well then ;)

Looking forward to use this in automations! It would be very helpful to display possible CIs that are affected by an incident or that may have caused it.
