Access to JIRA REST API from OKTA

Samrat Dutta June 6, 2022

Hi,
If a JIRA account is set up with Okta authentication so that users do not have to enter password, how do users authenticate to JIRA rest apis using the normal Oauth2?
The problem is that it is always asking for password when the user enters the email to login which ideally doesn't happen for Okta enabled users.

@Samrat Dutta

Google "Jira REST API OKTA".

Thanks, already did and then posted here. It is not 100% clear from the accepted answer in community since we are doing oauth2 already and it still doesn't work for users with  OKTA enabled.

"It still doesn't work for users with Okta" tells us nothing about where you have gone wrong setting it up.  You'll need to explain what you have done differently to the docs you have found.

@Samrat Dutta

Configuring your environment so that connections to the REST API are not passed to OKTA for MFA should be a trivial matter for even a moderately skilled systems administrator, as the scenario is extensively documented on OKTA's website in numerous step-by-step articles.

Tell your sys admins to raise a support request with OKTA directly.
