Add a group as participants in automation

as far as I can see, it's not possible to add a group as participants in Jira automation, is it?
Am I missing some steps?

I read the doc, but I can't really understand why I should create a custom field when the information is already available. It's a complicated and redundant approach I think.

If its already created then you can proceed with next steps. 

Or if you have JMWE plugin then you can copy the group users to request participants field using the workflow post function.
