Allow certain fields to be editable depending on Status

I have implemented the solution provided in "How to only allow certain fields to be editable depending on Status" but it is not working in all statuses. The field to be edited is a custom field that pulls assets. In certain statues the below error is showing:
The custom field is set global (all issues). What else should I check to resolve the above error?
