Approval buttons don't follow the conditions

I have a field-required validator set in my workflow on an approval transition but when the user selects the "approve" button, it bypasses the validator. How can i ensure that this validator is followed, And is it possible to have a screen pop when the approval button is selected?

Yeah!! This won't work. It bypasses the conditions and validators Have the validator in separate transition and then the approval for separate status!! That's the best alternative you could have now
