My organization treats the priority very seriously. We have default priority set on Jira tickets and we're looking for ways to control and track changes on this field.
So far, we prohibit the field update by removing it from the Edit Screen. We set a transition at a specific status where it can be changed (by using the transition screen), ask for a business justification and then go back to the previous status with an updated priority. This works fine.
We would like to level it up by putting an approval workflow at that specific transition/status where before it gets updated, approval is needed. The workflow can cater for this but the priority field is already changed while waiting for approval. The priority change can vary as an upgrade or downgrade and can climb up/down multiple levels (like P4 to P1 and vice versa) so it is something that we can't anticipate hence post-function and Jira Automation are not viable options. We don't have Scriptunner FYI.
