I am not sure how to edit the smart value to get the reporters org and then edit the ticket to have the same org as reporter

Hi Matt, I'm no automation expert, but I had Support help with doing something similar to get the Organization of the reporter when a ticket is opened. They basically set me up with some API calls to get the Organization of the Reporter and save it to the Organization of the ticket. It's long and involved, and wouldn't be easy to post, but you could probably get some help with that from Support (support.atlassian.com/contact) if no one else replies.
