BigPicture - can I order roadmap tasks for everyone who views it

Robin Raben April 20, 2020

It may be that I just don't know what I'm doing, but it seems like if I change the order of tasks on a BigPicture portfolio that it only re-orders for my view. If others look at the roadmap the order is not changed.

I can't figure out what ordering scheme the roadmaps are using but it seems somewhat arbitrary. I like to order the tasks by end date. When my management team or customers view the roadmap I'd like it to make sense to them.

Is there a way I can dictate what others see in terms of task ordering?

Hi Robin

I'm not sure if I got you correctly, but I think you try to change the order of tasks on the Roadmap being logged in as you, and then you expect that other team members being logged as "them" will see the exact same order of tasks on the Roadmap as you do.

I only did a few tests on BigPicture Demo instance, being using two different accounts and got the expected results, i.e. when I changed the order of tasks using User 1 (see below screenshots), then User 2 could see the new order immediately. And I did my tests both on the PI and iteration levels of the Roadmap, and both with Jira tasks and artificial tasks, and moth with manual, arbitrary ordering, and the automatic ABV/PBV method. Also I later used User 2 to change the order, but again User 1 had the changes immediately reflected on their Roadmap view (obviously, F5, or Refresh, was involved).

So I'm kind of confused.

Now, the uncertain part is this: if I change the order of tasks on a BigPicture portfolio, because it's not clear to me whether you change the order of tasks on the Roadmap or somewhere else, and in the latter case you obviously won't get the expected result.

Now, you also asked if you could sort the tasks on the Roadmap by the end date. I'm not aware of any automatic method. You can sort them manually to reflect the 'end date order' but as for the automatic sorting you could only sort by PBV (Planned Business Value) or ABV (Actual Business Value), if you enable these fields in the Roadmap configuration.
