Can Jira receive email requests from outside our organization?

I'm sorry if I've asked this before but I can't find it.

We want to receive email requests from external customers to a service project. I added gmail.com to the allow list on a project but it still didn't accept the email I sent from my gmail account.

Is this even possible?
