Can Jira service desk exist on its own since its an independent application now

Hi.

We have Jira and Jira service desk installed on prem. And right now not many people are using JSD so we are planning to remove it from our instance. and install it as completely stand alone so that it can be accessed externally.

Has anyone tried to remove JSD from their setup without breaking JIRA? or would it cause any problem?

Thanks

JSD is not, nor ever will be, an "independent application".  It is an application that you install into a Jira Core.

You can run it separately from your existing Jira, but to that, you will need to install Jira + JSD somewhere away from your Jira.

When you say we need to install jira +JSD .. do you mean Jira core + JSD?

I am basically trying to have a completely separate instance of JSD in a different env all together however due to license crunch I was hoping if I can uninstall JSD from our current setup and use the licenses in a different domain and install JSD independently. have not tried it yet though..

Yes, when I say "Jira", I do mean "Jira Core" - that's the platform you need to run Service Desk on.

I'm not sure how you think this is going to help you with a "licence crunch" - you're still going to need the same numbers of licences if you separate the systems,

Type your answer ... Well if it was truly an independent application then yes it would have helped my license crunch situation however since its not, now I see that its not gonna work..
Now I noticed something that we have three components listed under Application - Jira service Desk, Jira software and Jira core. now my next question is (rather dumb one sorry about that) but then does the jira software license are responsible for Jira core also or its different licensing for core? becauase I don't see any license information for JIRA core..
