I am trying to create a custom field to use for marking a ticket one thing or another, this is something like that shown in the attached image, just an inline flat checkbox field and someone will just put a check mark if it applies to the current ticket or leave blank. the checkbox custom field options does not provide this, instead it provides the field name then default is 'none' and when clicking on it it drops down and gives the options with checkbox. not really what i m looking for.

Can you maybe explain the use case a bit more?
Are you trying to display this field on the request form or do you just need agents to fill it out via their (Jira) view?
If you're trying to display it on a portal/customer view, it will display only options provided for the field. Additionally, you can make a field required or optional.
On the other hand, you can use field configuration or workflow validators to make a field required for the whole project or when transitioning to a specific status.
Again, this would require a bit more context (e.g. where in the process/flow this field needs to be filled out and how it should be displayed).
