Custom field based on who submitted the request

Hello,

Is there a way I can pre-populate a custom field in JSM base on who submitted the request? For example, I have a request type that requires their manager's approval to proceed. I use a custom field that search the name of our users, however some people are selecting different names and not their manager hence the our process is not working well.

I am thinking if there is a way to pre-populate the approval field base on who submitted the request?

Hi jeffrey_wee this would be possible through an automation rule. Here's a possible example.

  • Trigger: When issue created
  • Issue fields condition: Request type equals whatever
  • If condition: Assignee is one of A, B, C
  • Edit issue action: Set value of manager field to X
  • Else condition: Assignee is one of D, E, F
  • Edit issue action: Set value of manager field to Y
  • Else condition: Assignee is one of G, H, I
  • Edit issue action: Set value of manager field to Z
