Is there a way to hide recently used request forms to my users? I have very few forms on my page so it looks duplicative.

Currently this is not possible natively. There is a suggestion open wtth Atlassian you can vote on:

There is however an app called Refined for JSM, with which you can completely cahnged the styling of you JSM portal, including omitting these recently used Request Types:
