I am not able to connect to slack using the Channels-->Chat
When I click on Chat -->configure it asks me to allow to connect to my lack workspace. Once I click on Allow it says "something went wrong"not a descriptive message as to what to check or the next steps . I have been trying this for almost a day and couldn't get this done. I also used the Slack Integration for JSM project that i am in and that worked.
Hi @Sharmila ,
I remember having the exakt same problem a couple month back. The "something went wrong" error is truly not very heplful as it rarely tells you the specific problem! However, since you are attempting to configure the connection via JSM Project Settings > Channels > Chat, the error is almost certainly related to permissions that the JSM app needs to interact with your Jira project and your Slack workspace.
I can think of 3 causes:
1. JSM Add-on Permissions (Most Common Cause)
Jira Service Management uses a dedicated Project Role called atlassian-addons-project-access to allow apps and integrations (like the Slack ChatOps features) to function. If this role is missing the necessary permissions, the connection fails.
To fix this go to your Jira Service Management Project.
Navigate to Project Settings (or the Cog Icon in the sidebar) > Permissions.
Check the Permission Scheme used by your project.
Look for the following permissions and ensure they are granted to the atlassian-addons-project-access role:
Browse Projects
Create Issues (often necessary for chat-based ticket creation)
If any are missing, click Actions > Edit Permissions and add the required permissions for that specific project role.
2. User Permissions (You as the Integrator)
The user performing the connection (you) needs to have specific permissions in both Jira and Slack.
Jira Check: Ensure your user account is a Project Administrator (or at least has the Administer Projects permission) in the JSM project you are trying to connect. You must also have the Browse Projects permission.
Slack Check: Ensure the email address you use for your Atlassian account is active and connected to your Slack workspace. If your Slack user account is deactivated, it will cause this issue.
3. Site-Wide Global Permission Check (Admin Required)
A global permission may be preventing the necessary lookup of users and groups.
Have your Jira Site Administrator go to Jira Settings (the main Cog Icon at the top-right) > Global Permissions.
Verify that the atlassian-addons-admins group is granted the "Browse Users and Groups" global permission. If this is missing, the app cannot validate the user credentials and will fail to connect.
Hope that helps. Please let me know how this goes.
Hi David, Thanks so much for the quick response. I followd the permission steps, but it still isn't working on my end.
