JSM Portal locks up after a few minutes when submitting tickets

There is a GUI bug in the SD portal that locks up the UI after about a minute or two. In other words, if it takes me more than a few mins to bang out the descriptions, then they end up losing everything they entered because the UI locks up and they have to restart the whole process.

This behaviour happens in Version 15.1 (15612.2.9.1.30, 15612) of Safari on Mac. It also happened in recent previous versions and has been happening for maybe several month, so perhaps one of the recent upgrades introduced it.

I am not able to find a report of a similar bug, which suggests it might be more to do with your system than being a bug in Jira.

Can you repeat it in other browsers?  Is the "UI locking up" happening on the server, so you have to restart it, or just the client end?  Do the log files on the server show any errors?

So the server is fine, and it's something in your implementation of Safari on your client machines that is a problem.

Remove any customisations you have made to the browser, run it in "safe" mode (all apps/plugins you've added to it disabled) and make sure you are on a recent, ideally latest, version of it.

You should find that fixes it, and if it does, you can then start putting your apps and customisations back into it, one at a time, seeing if the addition brings the problem back.
