Jira DC and JSM Database and General Integration

CTO Build, Run, and Architecture April 20, 2023

We have an existing 3 node Jira DC 8.20.7 version. We are planning to host JSM Datacenter 5.6 as a stand alone.

1) Would both applications share same database or would JSM have seperate db.

2) What is recommended.

3) How would both apps be integrated if different databases are employed

Usually JSM is installed in an exising Jira instance where Jira Core or Jira Software is already licensed.

We are planning to host JSM Datacenter 5.6 as a stand alone.

Because you mention 'stand alone' I assume you have reasons to not include JSM in your current instance?
In that case you need a separate database indeed.

Having 2 separate Jira instances means you'll have to manage everyting separately: workflows, fields, users, upgrades, ...
And you won't have easy integrations between the projects of both instances. Maybe you don't want to.

Think about it thoroughly.

May I know why you are considering this?

Thank you Charlie. We anticipate JSM projects to equally high volume and high number of projects
