Hi, I was wondering what is the best way to install Jira SD alongside Jira Software that we already have.
This article suggests installing Jira SD as a Jira Software plugin
- https://confluence.atlassian.com/servicedeskserver/installing-jira-service-desk-939926011.html
- "If you have Jira Core or Jira Software installed, you can install Jira Service Desk as an additional application, and vice versa."
This article suggests installing Jira SD as a standalone app but on the same server as Jira software
- "To utilize full integration benefits, Jira Service Management needs to be installed alongside Jira Software. Since Jira Service Management and Jira Software run on the same interface, you can administer both within the same tool with no additional configuration. To install Jira Service Management, follow the Installation steps and place it on the same server where the Jira Software is installed. "
And as a third option, we could install it to a sepearate server but are unsure if we can achieve the same level of integration via apllication links or something else?
Service Desk is an application for Jira. You add it to Jira Core, same as you do with Jira Software (There are installers for Core, JSD and Software, but the JSD and Software installers are nothing more than Core with the relevant application added to it, as though you'd installed Core and then clicked on "add JSD/Software" in manage applications)
The second article is not suggesting installing JSD separately, it is suggesting you install JSD into a Jira Core which already has Software installed.
So to answer the headline question - the best way to install JSD alongside Jira Software is to log into the Jira server, go to "manage applications" and add JSD alongside Software. As they're both running on the same Jira system, you get all the benefits of having all your issues in one place.

I always installed it as you indicate, but I have a client that is quite restrictive with its firewall, and only there the link to install ITSM does not appear, do you know what is the url that I must indicate to be excluded from the firewall so that the installation link appears?

Your server needs to be able to reach the marketplace, for both apps and applications.
