Mail forwarding has the wrong reporter

Hello all,

Current situation:

All mails sent to support@gmail.com gets forwarded to Jira at support@company.atlassian.net. This works most of the time and assigns the correct reporter that sent the mail to support@gmail.com. However, sometimes it uses support@gmail.com as the reporter which is a problem. Does anyone know what causes the problem and a fix?
