Make issues visible in customer portal to user in a custom field

We have a custom field identifying a user that a issue is focused on (not the requester) and would like to make that service request visible to the person in that custom field.

Is there somewhere we can include this custom field in the permissions to view a given issue?

Or is our only option automation to ensure the person in that custom field is copied into the Request participants field?

Is is possible. You need to modify the issue type that the request type is mapped to. Add the custom field on the screen. Then edit the request type to include that field.

 

custom fields are not permission base unless you have an add-on. You can go as granular what issue can be seen by whom.
