We have an on-site JIRA Server instance that we are moving to the cloud based version (legal requirements for retaining the data). Having some issues transferring the data, as we have already setup the project in the cloud, around attachments and names not coming through for fields eg assigned to, submitter.

Have tried the following:
- Migration Tool - won't transfer as project already exists in the cloud
- CSV export - attachments don't come through as the path still points to local server instance, some issues with names
- Temporary Cloud Instance - export to temporary cloud instance using migration tool which brings through everything correctly, then using a backup of temporary cloud instance, restore this to what will be the production cloud instance. Everything comes through fine, but any setup already done in the project on production is removed.

Is there a way to import into the already created project all the data (including attachments, and names) from JIRA server without having to redo the setup in the project?

Hi Scott, there may not be any project with the same project-key on the target instance. So you have some options:

  1. Remove the project from the target cloud site. The migration assistent will create the project automatically as part of the migration process
  2. Adjust the project key on the source site before migration. Then migrate. After migration, move the issues from the migrated project (with adjusted key) to your project

Have a nice day! Rik
