Prevent User Lookup for Portal Only Users / External Customers

Hello,

I am trying to test some permission setups to achieve the following:

1. Allow for users to sign-up on their own (for dealing with external email customers, etc).

2. Prevent these external signups from accessing user directory via "Share with".

3. I don't want to use organizations, as this causes some unnecessary spam when users choose to share a request with the entire organization.

I've tried to remove the Browse issues, but this does not work (and external user can still view all users on the site).

Does anyone have any thoughts, similar setups, best practices, or other comments on how best to achieve this?

Hi @Matthew Berzinskas

Good questions - let's go point by point:

  1. Self Signup - This is easily achievable by setting the access settings for customers to allow self-registration. This can be done here: https://<YOURURL>.atlassian.net/jira/settings/products/servicedesk/customer-access
  2. Prevent users from accessing directory - Two ways this can be achieved.
    1. Set your JSM Projects to be invite only (meaning you can't have self-sign up), and limit the searching to within their project they're assigned.
    2. Use organisations. You can map a domain name to an organisation for automatic assignment to it on self-sign up, and in addition, you can disable the "Organisation Added" in the Customer Notifications section of the project: https://<YOURURL>.atlassian.net/jira/servicedesk/projects/<PROJECT KEY>/settings/customer-notifications
  3. Addressed above.

Hopefully that helps!
