Hi 

Is it possible to change the URL for our assets to be appended with the asset name rather than the Object iD, i need it done this way so my Hardware vendor can print a device label with a QR code that navigates direct to the JIRA Asset ?

Unfortunately not. The Assets URL rely on their Object IDs and we are not able to change it. You may submit a feature request through https://support.atlassian.com but this may take several months as the Atlassian Product Team gather requirements and audience interest before moving forward with the development.
