Assets Object Field on Portal Form

Tony Landowski August 29, 2023

Does anyone know, if possible, if an Assets Object field can show the Icon, Name, and another field in the Portal?  I know how to add the additional fields for the issue view but wanted to provide more information to our users at the time of ordering.

In this case, we have certain laptops our employees can order.  I would like to provide them with an image, the name, and specs of the machine (drive size, ram, cost, etc.).  Any suggestions will be helpful.

Currently the form do not support showing the icon of the asset, it will only show the name. I did a quick search and couldn't find a suggestion for it, but hopefully the form will support it in the future.

Hi Tony,

A great solution for your use case is the Better Search for Customer Portal  app.

With this app, you can display objects with customizable columns directly in the portal — including icons, names, specs like RAM, drive size, cost, or any other attributes from your schema. It’s ideal for structured product catalogs and helps end users make more informed decisions during the request process.

You can also enable default and hidden values to narrow down selections, making the ordering process even smoother.

We’ve found it especially useful for hardware ordering scenarios like yours. Let me know if you’d like help setting it up!
