We are new to JSM. We are still configuring our instance.

We would like to know how to manually backup an instance and enact a restore if we have something go wrong.

Is this possible and if so, how do we do it.

Hey Ben! Unfortunately, manual backup and restore isn't something you can do yourself with JSM Cloud - that's all handled by Atlassian on their end with automatic backups.

However, you do have some options for protecting your configuration work:

What you CAN backup:

  • Export your project configurations (go to Project Settings > Export)
  • Use the Site Export feature to get a snapshot of your data (though this is more for migration than restore)
  • Document your configurations as you build them

If something goes wrong:

  • Contact Atlassian support - they can restore from their backups to a specific point in time
  • Use the "Recently Deleted" features to recover accidentally deleted items
  • Project admins can restore deleted projects within a certain timeframe

Best practices while configuring:

  • Test changes in a sandbox project first
  • Make one change at a time so you know what broke if something goes wrong
  • Keep notes on your configuration steps

Are you on Cloud or Server/Data Center? The options are different depending on your deployment type.
