Can a custom field update trigger a custom screen to pop up?

I want a screen window to pop up after adding a value to a field in jira. Similar to a transition window. Is this possible?

Yes, that is possible. You should have your custom field linked to a jira field and added to issue edit screen.

• Create a custom screen and add your custom field to it.
• Attach custom screen to a related workflow.
• Add screen in the transition step in the workflow.
• When the transition happens, you should get a pop-up screen to update the value.

It is not possible in a screen, but you could do it by using Forms. Forms allow you to create dynamic sections that are only visible based on selected values in a question.
