To put it simply, I have a process where people within the business can post feature requests to Service Desk and then I add it to Product Discovery for discovery and prioritisation.

I want to create a Jira Automation where it copy/pastes the summary, description, and reporter from the Service Desk Issue into Product Discovery Idea. I select Product Discovery project from the dropdown and the default issue type – Idea.

Jira Automation spits back that the issue type doesn't exist even though it is in the dropdown and when the automation is run I get the following error:

Error retrieving the issue type fields for project/typeId - 10011/10036

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Hey @Cory Mayfield ,

Can you maybe share screenshots of your automation and the audit log?

I've just tested this case by using manual trigger and it seems to be working as expected.

Can you also check if those people you're trying to set as reporters have access to this JPD project? If they are only customers on the portal/help center, you might need to grant them Contributors role. (that's just my first guess)

Cheers,
Tobi

Hi @Cory Mayfield and welcome to the community!

If you're looking to automatically clone key fields like summary, description, and reporter from a Jira Service Management issue to Jira Product Discovery, our app Deep Clone for Jira is a powerful solution that can help streamline your process.

With Deep Clone, you can:

  • Automatically clone issues—including custom fields, comments, attachments, and even the issue status.
  • Use Post Function Clone to trigger cloning during a workflow transition.
  • Maintain the link between the original and cloned issue using issue links.
  • Edit or transform fields during cloning using Jira Expressions.

For your use case, I would recommend setting up a post function on a transition in your Jira Service Management project’s workflow that triggers a Deep Clone operation into your Product Discovery project.
