Hi community,
I'm the product owner of a Jira Team-managed project (Jira service management) and I’ve noticed that the Status filter dropdown (e.g., when filtering issues or creating reports) contains duplicate or unused statuses like:
CANCELED
CANCELLED
CLOSED
COMPLETED
None of these are in use anymore — I’ve confirmed that:
They are not part of any active workflow in my project
No issues are currently in these statuses
Is there a way to clean up or remove these unused statuses so they don’t clutter the dropdown and confuse users?
This is specifically under the Filters > Status = (equals) field when building a filter or report.
Any help is appreciated — thanks!
I've been investigating internally this problem you are facing, I apologize it took us longer than expected to get back to you.
Currently, it's not possible to delete any default/custom status from team-managed projects, only remove it from a Workflow, which may result in many available and unused statuses as you mentioned in the screenshot. This seems to be the case in your workflow.
Additionally, we have an open feature request to enable deleting statuses on team-managed projects:
Please be sure to watch it so that you're notified of any updates. I have also internally added a link to this case so that the developers can reference it if necessary.
We take many things into account when deciding which features well work on next.
You can learn more about this by reading our Implementation of New Features Policy.
I wish a great day ahead!
Regards,
Anusha A

Hi,
Welcome to the community.
You will need to delete them from your instance, click on the cog icon > work items > statuses. Make sure that theses statuses are not in use in your instance.

Hi Mohamed,
Thank you for your answer — much appreciated!
I did find and delete several unused statuses, but it turns out that most of the duplicates I was seeing weren't actually present.
