Hi @Carson Sham

Unfortunately, there is no way to track or restore deleted tickets in Jira.

The things you can do to prevent losing deleted tasks in the future:

- Disable permission for the regular users and allow it to admins only.

Back up your projects.

- Get the app from the Atlassian Marketplace

The app developed by my team helps to track and restore deleted issues. It is called Issue History for Jira. Storing deleted issues is started only after activating the option in the add-on. You can’t get a record of the issues deleted before the app was installed. So, you can use it to prevent losing deleted issues in the future.

Hi @Carson Sham

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

By default, Jira does not track deleted issues and deleted issues are lost forever. To prevent it happening again, you can try Restore Deleted Issues app developed by our team. In order for this app to work, the app must have been installed before the issue is deleted.

After you install this app,

  • Both bulk and single issue deletions are logged.
  • You can see when and by whom issues are deleted.
  • You can recover summary, description, comments except attachments.

Below you can find an article about tracking and restoring deleted issues in Jira.

How to Track and Restore Your Deleted Issues in Jira

Hope it helps.

Hello @Carson Sham ,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

It's a pitty that you have faced an issue like that. As a preventive measure to have the possibility to restore your data fast you can try to have a backup of your Jira environment. In this case, all your Jira data is accessible and recoverable in case of unintentional deletion.

I'm from GitProtect, backup and Disaster Recovery solution for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Jira Work Management. With our automated backup software you can schedule your backup policy to make sure that all your data is recoverable in any event of failure.

Hi Carson,

There is no built-in feature that logs issue deletion in Jira.

When you are using Atlassian Access, you can track quite all the actions in the system:

https://admin.atlassian.com/o/{{org-id}}/audit-log/search?action=jira_issue_deleted

Furthermore there is the option to buy another third party addon, that allows to track and restore. Find out more in this article.

In general, the topic of issue delete permission should be reviewed in all permission schemes. It is advisable to restrict this permission to people who know what they are doing.
Instead of deleting tickets, you can also simply close them and set a corresponding resolution.

Best

Johannes

Hi and welcome to the Atlassian Community!

By default this is not logged, but using Automation you could build this yourself :

You could log the user deleting the issue, natively in the rule audit log you already have the trigger issue and timestamps.

Hi @Carson Sham

There is no info about that action. Maybe Atlassian is able to share with you some info about deleted issues via support ticket but I didn't try it.

Regards,

Seba
