Be sure you are unchecking the box that says "Automatically create object types and attributes.

If you do not uncheck this, it will create a new object type

Hi @Timothy McKay

Good day!

Yes, you can import assets from a CSV file into the objects you have created in Jira Assets (formerly Insight CMDB). Jira provides a CSV Importer that allows you to map CSV data to your object schema.

Steps to Import Assets from CSV into Jira Assets:

  1. Prepare Your CSV File

    • Ensure your CSV file has appropriate columns (e.g., Asset Name, Serial Number, Model, Owner, etc.).

    • The first row should contain headers.

    • If importing relationships (e.g., Laptop assigned to a user), ensure you have a column for the related object.

  2. Go to Assets Configuration

    • Navigate to Jira Service Management.

    • Click on Assets > Select your Object Schema.

    • Go to Configure (⚙) > Import.

  3. Create a CSV Import Configuration

    • Select CSV Import.

    • Upload your CSV file.

    • Choose the object type (e.g., "Laptop") where data will be imported.

  4. Map CSV Fields to Object Attributes

    • Map each column in your CSV to the corresponding attributes in the schema.

    • If an attribute does not exist, you may need to create it in the object schema.

  5. Set Identifiers and Options

    • Choose a Unique Identifier (e.g., Serial Number) to avoid duplicate imports.

    • Decide whether to create new objects, update existing ones, or both.

  6. Run the Import

    • Test the import with a small sample before importing the entire dataset.

    • Run the import and check for any errors.

  7. Verify the Imported Assets

    • Navigate to the object schema and check if the assets (e.g., Laptops) have been imported correctly.

Thanks,

Armitha.

That did not work it keeps creating another object under the Schema Tree not in the Parent object

yes, you click on Schema Configuration, select the last tab, Import

  • Click on Create Import button the right
  • Select CSV and click Next
  • Name it and Browse for your file.
  • Since you already have a schema, be sure to UNCHECK the Automatically Create checkbox and select Create Import
  • Once you do that, you will need to Create a Mapping between your Asset Record and your CSV
  • Enable Mapping
  • Begin Import
