Is SSO authentication possible without Atlassian Guard?

I am trying to perform SSO authentication without Atlassian Guard. Is it possible?

If so, I would like to know the basis for this.

Nope, You need at least Guard Standard.

BTW, once your JSM upgraded to the Enterprise plan, you should be able to have this capability of Guard for free.

Jira Service Management portal-only accounts that only submit tickets are not billable for Atlassian Guard Standard. Only Jira Service Management agents that log in using a managed account are billable for Atlassian Guard Standard.
