When a user joins I'd like them to be assigned their team and not just their name so when they raise tickets it says the team they are in as well as the individual user. This would be useful so i would know what permissions they need for new accounts for various software they require and also if they raised a ticket and then went on leave I could more easily re-allocate it to one of their team.

Hi Dear,

Currently, Jira doesn't automatically link a user's name to their team in the Reporter field. That field always displays the individual account.

The most practical way to achieve what you're suggesting is through Project Group or Role management:

Global Groups:

When a user is added, they are assigned to the corresponding group (QA, DevOps, Architecture, Accounts, etc.).

This makes it easy to identify which team they belong to and also to use those groups for permissions, filters, and automations.

Project Roles:

Instead of working with an additional field, you can leverage Jira roles (e.g., Developer, Tester, Architect).

By assigning each person to the correct role within the project, it's clear which team they belong to and can be used in reports or automations.

👉 In conclusion, you can’t automatically display “John (Accounts)” on the ticket, but you can gain that visibility by assigning global groups or specific roles, and then reflecting it in reports/dashboards or even pre-loading it with automation rules in a custom “Team” field.
