Organization locked field

I wish the Organization field in the Work Item view had the ability to become a drop down selector instead of typing ( /select an option). Would be much more efficient when processing tickets.
Since the field is "Locked" is there any way to make this field a drop down option?
I'd rather not create a custom field for this, unless it will integrate seamlessly with the other data I have associated with the currently set up organization list.

Sadly, that cant be done. Standard locked fields are locked for a reason.

You will need to create your own picklist.

Also, the organization being a picklist isn't quite feasible if you have many organizations. Think of 50+. A picklist with 50+ values is quite unmanageable.

I will certainly create a picklist, I was just concerned that the new data of assigning an organization to a ticket would not integrate with the previous organization associated assignments.

I'm internal IT for 4 companies and hence why a drop down is more efficient for a position like mine. Totally understand the drawback if there were many more org. options. Will request that it is an option to enable, not that it is the default.
